The Volunteer Reservist Service is a completely new service which has been developed to help support Hospitals and other Health Care settings in times of need.
During times of emergencies, when our hospitals are particularly busy, we need our wonderful Volunteer Reservists to step in to assist the staff with non-medical roles at one of our hospitals across mid and south Essex (MSE).
There are several roles on offer at the moment, but whatever is chosen, it will contribute to, and give something back to the community.
We are for a commitment of at least four hours a month, but obviously we would really appreciate offers above this.
We ask which day(s), which hospital(s) and which role(s) the volunteer would like to volunteer for.
We are then able to filter our database to match the needs of the emergency.
The opportunities available at present are:
Mealtime Companion Volunteers and Catering Runner Volunteers
- Improve patient nutrition
- Provide feeding support
- Better nourished and hydrated patients
- Assist catering staff Administration Support Volunteer
Admission and Discharge Volunteers
- Assist patients on arrival or discharge
- Help signpost patients to other services
- Encourage feedback – needs and concerns
Wheelchair Collection and Department Runner Volunteers
- Return wheelchairs to their correct bases
- Run errands
- Provide patients and visitors with directions around the hospital
- Reunite family and friends with patients
Emergency Department Volunteers
- Help family/friends locate patients
- Escort or direct patients and/or family to facilities and locations
- Ensure area is kept tidy
- Keep water jugs full and ensure cups are available
- Assist patients with iPads
- Organise stock and nutritional supplies
Dementia Buddy Volunteers
- Provide friendship
- Conversation
- Activities
Ambulance Support Volunteers
- Provide ambulance staff with refreshments between calls
Emergency Department Volunteers
- Help with completing forms
- Meet and greet
- Direct patients companion to correct seating area
- Organise stock
